The gospel in one verse - The Natural Gospel (Romans 6:23)
For the wages of sin (1) is death (2): but the gift of God (4) is eternal life (5) through Jesus Christ our Lord (3).
A simple
way to present the gospel is to split Romans 6:23 into the different parts of
the gospel. Romans 6:23, like John 3:16, is the heart of the gospel message.
1- Everybody
is a sinner (Romans 3:23).
2- We all
deserve the second death in hell (Revelation 21:8 – ‘’all liars’’ are going to
hell).
3- Through
Jesus, we can get the opposite of that death. Jesus’ death, burial and
resurrection (1Corinthians 15:3-4) pays for all of our sins and saves us from
hell.
4-
Salvation is the gift of God - we can only receive it through faith in what
Jesus did for us. It’s not by the works that we do for Him (Ephesians 2:8-9).
5- Salvation is eternal – we are saved forever the moment we put all of our faith and trust in Christ alone. Eternal life is a gift that will last forever. It’s an unconditional gift based on God’s promise, not on man’s faithfulness to keep the law (Acts 16:31, Romans 10:9, 13, John 3:36, Titus 1:2).
