How to preach the gospel - A complete soulwinning script
Hi, I’m a
baptist—I have a question-If you were to die today, are you a 100% sure that
you’d go to heaven? (If sure: What do
you believe someone has to do to be saved?) The bible says there’s only one
thing we must do to be saved — it’s by faith alone without works (by trusting in
Christ — Act 16 :31). Would you like to know for sure?
First of
all, the Bible says that we’re all sinners - For all have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God. So we are all guilty of lying, stealing or coveting.
And the Bible says there’s a punishment for our sins. (For the wages of sin is
death). So the wages (or penalty) we earn for our sins is death. This is not
just a physical death but also a second death in hell— And all liars, shall
have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone which is the
second death. So we’re all guilty, right? (We all deserve hell as a punishment
for our sins).
But there’s
good news - the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (You
know who Jesus is, right?) The Bible says He is the Son of God (God manifest in
the flesh)- (He’s the second person of the trinity (Father, Son and Holy
Spirit)). The Bible says that Christ died for our sins, and that He was buried,
and that he rose again the third day in order to pay for all of our sins and to
save us from hell. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, it’s just as if He
had done them — He was being punished in our place – Who his own self bare our
sins in his own body on the tree.
Moreover, the
Bible says that salvation is a gift. ‘’For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man
should boast’’. So who pays for a gift? The giver or the receiver? Person — The
giver. ((And do we have to do anything to earn a gift? Person — No)). That’s
right — because the giver pays for it in full. Since salvation is free, we
don’t have to give anything in return (it is not of works, not of our own doing).
The word grace means ‘’something we do not deserve’’ (remember, we deserve
hell, not salvation). And the word faith means ‘’what we are trusting to be
saved’’.
The one
thing the Bible says we must do to be saved is : ‘’Believe on the Lord Jesus
Christ, and thou shalt be saved’’. To believe means to trust — it doesn’t mean
to only believe that Jesus exists, but to actually trust Him to save us
personally. To believe on Him means that we put all of our faith and trust in
His death, His burial and His resurrection as the complete payment for our sins
(which guarantees us eternal life). Notice the verse doesn’t say that you have
to repent of all of your sins, or join a church, or be baptized, or keep the
commandments, or be a good person, or do good works- it only says believe (because
salvation is not of works).
And once
you believe on Christ, you will be saved forever. So that whosoever believeth
in Him should not perish but have eternal life. Salvation is a one-time
decision. The moment you put your trust in Christ alone as Savior, you receive
forgiveness for all of your sins (past, present and future) and eternal life.
Eternal life is a gift that will last forever and that you cannot ever lose.
Now if you do good things after you’re saved, God will bless you, and if you
commit sins, God will correct you (that means He’ll discipline you on this
earth), but there’s nothing you can do to lose salvation because you’ve become
a child of God and all of your sins are paid for and covered by the blood of
Jesus. You’re justified before God – it’s just as if you had never sinned.
Salvation is based solely on Christ payment for our sins and whether we accept
it or not. No one is good enough to go to heaven on their own merits.
So the one
thing you must do to receive the gift of eternal life is to call on Jesus by
faith - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Before we
call on the name of the Lord, I have a few questions for you — 1. Do you
believe that we’re all sinners? (Yes- Rom. 3:23, 1Jn. 1:8), 2, Do you believe
that we all deserve hell for our sins (Yes — Rev. 21 :8, Rm. 3 :4, Rom 1 :18)
3. Do you believe that Jesus died and rose again to pay for all of your sins
and to save you from hell? (Yes- 1Jn. 2:2), 4. What do you believe a person
must do in order to be saved? (Believe/rely on Christ- Act 16:31), 5. Is
believing (relying) on Jesus alone good enough or do you also have to be a good
person and do good works ? (No — Rom. 4:5, 11:6), 6. Is there anything you can
do to lose eternal life? (No — because it’s a gift - Jn. 10:28). — 7. What do
you personally believe about all of this?
If you’re
sincere, I would like to lead you in a prayer in order to ask Jesus to save
you. Pray sincerely: “*Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and that I
deserve to go to hell. But I believe that you died on the cross, were buried and
rose again to pay for all of my sins. Please save me right now and give me
eternal life. I’m trusting in you alone for my salvation — apart from my works.
Thank you for saving me, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”’ - So, if you have sincerely
asked Jesus to save you, you’re saved for ever ‘’He that believeth on the Son
hath everlasting life’’(John 3:36). Now you know you have it according to the Bible.
